ELIMINATE ALL ENTITLEMENTS:
American society was predicated on individual freedom and responsibility. These concepts have deteriorated in the case of health care and social security. If privatization were addressed by our 535 $136,600 per year "conscientious Congressmen," individual freedom and responsibility could be restored.
HEALTH CARE REFORM!
Deregulate health care. Educate and promote prevention as opposed to cure. Good God, the whiners in the media and the blatant belchers on the left would have you believe we should be, if we are not already there, a socialistic womb-to-the-tomb nanny state. Every time you get a runny nose don't expect mommy (in this case uncle Sam) to come running with a handkerchief.
Many studies have stated that an overwhelming majority of maladies are self-inflicted; we eat too much, exercise too little, stress ourselves too much, don't give enough consideration to rest and sleep patterns, not to mention smoking and drinking alcohol combined with excessive worry. Roll all that up into today's living patterns and do that often and/or long enough and what do you expect -- forgiveness? Forget it! The piper is going to be paid sooner or later. Why should all taxpayers subsidize the stay in the hospital or medication of those who are self-gratifying and over-indulgent? Do I sound cruel or is it "just the facts ma'am?"
B. PRIVATIZE SOCIAL SECURITY!
If Congress decided to show even a little leadership it could adopt the very successful Chile or Australian system. Because of word constraints please refer to Time magazine March 20, 1995, Wall Street Journal editorials: June 28, 1996, August 30, 1996, and December 31, 1997 and the WSJ, Outlook section on January 12, 1998. Hopefully these articles will inspire you to get off your couch and write your Congressman.
Sincerely, Robert Jay
