Site of William Tinker House
This address is an example of architectural adapation that gives Fells
Point much of its character and variety. Originally built in the 1700s
as a dormered, two and a half story house, a third story and other
enlargements have been aded, including a late 19th century Italinate
facade, that have totally changed its colonial appearance. The house was
originally owned by William Tinker, a compassionate grocer, who, when he
heard of the plight of some French exiles fleeing a revolt in Haiti,
rowed out to the ships in the harbor and distributed provisions to the
refugees (1793).
