Former Obrycki Bakery & Residence -
1620 Shakespeare Street
In the early 1900s Alexander Obrycki and his brother operated a bakery on
this site (now a clothing shop). Obrycki's bakery served as the
unofficial center for newly arriving Polish immigrants. In addition to
settling newcomers, the Obryckis enterained visiting Polish celebrities
in this house, including Nobel laureate Madame Marie Sklodowska Curie,
the co-discoverer of radium.
