Shakespeare Street -
Between S. Broadway & S. Bond Streets
Although Fells Point figured in the dreams of sailors in the foc'sal as a
hedonistic port of call like Marseilles, many captains made Fells Point
home as well. For instance, two block long Shakespeare Street once housed
five captains, including Captain William Furlong, a successful privateer
during the War of 1812 who lived at 1608 Shakespeare Street. His residence,
built in 1796, is part of an early row, now mostly renovated.
