Broadway Pier -
Foot of Broadway at Thames Street
Up until 1917 the Locust Point ferry landed thousands of new Americans on
this pier after they were processed at the immigration station across the
river. In some years, only Ellis Island in New York welcomed more
European immigrants than Baltimore. The Baltimore Harbor Endowment has
commemorated these pioneers and their descendants with 10,000 engraved
bricks on the pier. The ferry continued to serve as an important social
and economic link between the Fells Point and Locust Point communities
until it finally closed down in 1937.
