Software to help you

I've been looking around for some software that will help you from some very annoying problems that sometimes occur. Like being disconnected in the middle of a download, not being able to save your password, having trouble finding things on the net and so on.

With the help of some Internet Service Providers, their technical support folk and comments from viewers the list below represents programs that have been cited as being helpfull

Special note, these programs are mostly for win95, but the list includes some web page urls that may guide you to the software for your operating system.

Problem - Won't save my password:

RedBar

The best program for this; DUNce. DUNce means Dial-Up Networking. It is a little program that will remember your password, start programs (Netscape, MSIE) after connecting and you can even schedule times to connect and disconnect unattended. Get bumped off, DUNce will reconnect you automatically and it will continue to try until you are reconnected.
You can download this program from this address: http://www.intnet.net/pub/NEWUSER/win95/Dialup_fix.zip
Or go to:
http://www.download.com and do a search for DUNce.
This file is compressed, so you will need to have pkunzip or winzip to open it. You can get a copy of this program from this address:
http://www.intnet.net/pub/NEWUSER/win95/winzip95.exe
Both of these programs are FREE!

Problem - Disconnected while downloading a file

RedBar

DUNce will reconnect you, but the program you need is GetRight. This program will pick up right where you left off, even if it was not your choice to disconnect.
Say you were downloading a 10Meg file and about half thru, you lose your connection. In the old days that meant having to start all over. With this program, it will pick up right where you left off and continue the download. It is a real time saver. This program works with HTML downloads as well as FTP.
You can get the program from this address:
http://www.intnet.net/pub/NEWUSER/win95/GetRight.exe
or
http://www.headlightsw.com/
Win3.x, WinNT and Mac Versions I believe are available.

Problem - Can't find anything on the net.

RedBar

Get Netferret. It will find many items for you with just a click of the mouse button. Search for anything and Netferret will go out and find the data for you in an easy to read format. If you like one of the search results, just double click and Netferret will get it. Not sure about a search result, just run the mouse over the result and more data will be provided.
You can get the program from this address:
http://www.intnet.net/pub/NEWUSER/win95/Netferret.exe
or go to their homepage at:
http://www.ferretsoft.com/
You can evaluate this program for 30 days. The cost of the program is around 24.95 They may have versions for other operating systems.

Problem - I want Java for my Win3.x or MAC

RedBar

Microsoft has announced that their latest version of Microsoft Internet Explorer is capable of doing Java for you.
I tried it out and it does work, although it is much slower than a Win95 system. They have also improved on the browsers design. It looks a lot more like Netscape so you shouldn't have to much of a problem switching over. You can download this program from this address:
http://www.intnet/net/pub/NEWUSER/windows/msie301_java_mail.exe
This has a new mail program built in and it works very well.
For MAC's users:
http://www.intnet.net/pub/NEWUSER/mac/msie301_4macs.hqx
or
http://www.microsoft.com/

These programs are Free!
