Beyond Free Trade and Sailors' Rights:
The Second National War of 1812 Symposium
Saturday, October 10, 1998

     A full day's symposium, 9:00 AM to 4:30 P.M., devoted to the study of the War of 1812 and its era will be held at the University of Maryland's Davidge Hall, Greene and Lombard Streets in downtown Baltimore.

Talks will cover:

• the naval War of 1812,
• land engagements including discussion of the Creek War and artilleryman Nathan Towson on the Niagara Frontier,
• Betsy Patterson Bonaparte and her marriage to Jerome Bonaparte,
• French emigré architect Maximilian Godefroy and the controversy over whether he or Robert Cary Long Sr. built Davidge Hall,
• and the archaeological investigation into Commodore Joshua Barney's Chesapeake Flotilla.

    Lunch time rountables on various topics in the adjoining atrium of the Samuel D. Harris National Museum of Dentistry.

     This conference is sponsored by the War of 1812 Consortium, Inc., the National Museum of Dentistry, and the Chesapeake Flotilla Project.
