Saturday (3/26)

tamper     With the entire track on 4 track spiked and filled with ballast, it needed to be tamped to properly support the tries, which support the rail. Josh Leapman'ss ballast tamper was in the back of the Car House, and had three of its standard gauge wheels converted to Baltimore (wider gauge) gauge. What we all hoped would be a relatively quick move of the tamper out on two track and over to four track proved to be a very long task. We did get it moved over, but it was an 11 hour task (we got much better the next time we had to do it, but that is a later story). One of the problems was not wanting to run the tamper in the Car House, it makes to much soot. Towing it with the back hoe was slow job given the very tight clearances in the Car House. A large number of cars were taken out to give us enough room. The next problem was making temporary track to go from 2 track to what will become 4 track. Add to that that the tamper would not run very well (That was fixed a few weeks later). Changing the last wheel to Baltimore gauge also took much longer than we expected (Good think Rick works on big trucks). The crew for this all day move included Ed Amrhein, Josh Lepman, Dan McCaffery, Chris Howell, Chris McNally, John La Costa, Mark Dawson, JC, Rick Obbink, John Engleman And Carl Merson.

Carl Merson was Dispatcher with Mark Dawson and Chris McNally as crew for a charter.

Sunday (3/27)

Chris Howell was Dispatcher with Steve Abramowitz, Joan Shay and John Engleman as crew.
